HWRN Network Core Members

Network core members:

Members represent a broad range of disciplinary expertise, including but not limited to epidemiology, exercise physiology, nutrition, pediatrics, psychology, psychiatry, public health, social work, biostatistics, and others.  Members will have made significant research and scholarly contributions to the field of obesity and/or health of children with ASD/DD.

Diane-Boas

Diane D. Boas, MS, is a Project Manager at Let’s Go! an obesity prevention initiative working with communities to create environments that support healthy choices. The program is part of the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.  At Let’s Go! Ms Boas develops tools and trainings for health care providers, educators and other professionals to help them include children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their obesity prevention efforts. Ms Boas has an interest in assisting Medicaid funded service providers address the health needs of the pediatric and adult clients they serve.  Ms. Boas is a disability rights advocate dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with I/DD and HWRN Dissemination Core.  About Let’s Go!  

Kerri Boutelle, PhD

Kerri Boutelle, PhD, is a Professor of Pediatrics, Family Medicine Public Health and Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego; Director of the Center for Health Eating and Activity Research (CHEAR); Senior Supervising Psychologist, UCSD Eating Disorders and HWRN Pilot & Feasibility/Peer Review Core. April Bowling

April Bowling, MA, ScD, is an Assistant Professor in Health Sciences at Merrimack College and member of the HWRN Dissemination Core and the Secondary Data Analysis Core. Her research focuses on epidemiologic investigations and interventions to improve physical activity, diet, sleep, and screen time behaviors in youth with neurodevelopmental and affective diagnoses.  About Dr. Bowling 

Sarabeth Broder-Fingert, MD

Joseph Donnelly, EdD

Joseph E. Donnelly, EdD, is Professor of Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Research Institute, University of Kansas Medical Center and Director, Energy Balance Laboratory (EBL) and Center for Physical Activity and Weight Management, University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC), Kansas City and University of Kansas, Lawrence and HWRN Pilot & Feasibility/Peer Review Core. Richard Fleming, PhD

Richard Fleming, PhD,is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, a former Professor (retired) in the Department of Exercise and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts-Boston (UMB), and a HWRN Dissemination Core member.  About Dr. Fleming

Kirsten Davison

Kirsten K. Davison, MS, PhD, is the Donahue and DiFelice Endowed Chair and Associate Dean for Research in the School of Social Work at Boston College and Pilot and Feasibility Core Member.  Davison leads an extramurally-funded research program focused on parenting and child health outcomes, with a particular focus on underserved families in a domestic setting.  About Dr. Davison

Sandra Hassink, MD

Sandra Hassink, MD,  is the Medical Director of the American Academy of Pediatrics Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight and HWRN Dissemination Core. About Dr. Hassink.

Susan L. Hyman, MD

Susan L. Hyman, MD, is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of  Rochester Medical Center, the Division Chief of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at the Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She is on the Executive Committee of the Council on Children with Disabilities of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the subboard of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics of the American Board of Pediatrics. She is site co-PI for the Rochester site of the Autism Treatment Network and HWRN Dissemination Core.  Her research interests relate to diet, nutrition, and treatment of children and youth with ASD. About Dr. Hyman.
